The Kiwicare daily programme for your child is based on the childcare curriculum (Te Whaariki goals) and Ministry Of Education's Statement of Desirable Objectives [DOPS].
7:30am Greet parents/guardians/whanau and children
Child initiated play - play dough, blocks, messy play area: Children experience an environment where they are affirmed as individuals, (contribution goal 2) with staff respecting children's preferences and modelling non discriminatory behaviour [DOPS 1c+5e].
8:45am Tidy up time: This encourages social interactions and the clean up song is sung at this time, in order that children feel comfortable with routines [DOPS 5b].
9:00am - 9:30am Split mat time, 0 - 2 year olds and 3 - 4 year olds: Where children greet teacher and their friends, learn new songs in English, Te Reo, or other appropriate cultures, and enjoy finger play, stories, and role play. As well children are encouraged to share their things and news about their home experiences. Children develop awareness of connections between events and experiences within and beyond the early childhood setting (Belonging goal 1) Children are encouraged to work with and alongside others [DOPS 5c].
9:30am - 10:00am Morning tea for 0 - 2 & 2 - 5 year olds: Children are encouraged to wash their hands. Children experience an environment where their health is promoted [well being goal 1 and DOPS 5a].
10:00am - 11:15am Programme - Inside/Outside: Activities are set up relating to the children's focus, free flowing according to their interests. Children experience an environment where they learn strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning (exploration goal 3). This enhances children's sense of themselves as capable people and competent learners [DOPS 4d].
11:00am Tidy up time: Children are encouraged to tidy up after play alongside a teacher and to wash hands at appropriate times. This promotes self-help skills.
11:05am - 11:15am Mat time - Book time, Music time, Dance time and Discovery time: Children's thinking is developed through basic concepts of learning to count, distinguishing colours, directional concepts, literacy etc. Children experience and develop verbal communication skills for a range of purposes (communication goal 2). Educators implement strategies to include all children [DOPS 1f]. Planning the children's next project is encouraged at this time.
11:15am First Lunch time 11:45am Second Lunch time: Children are encouraged to wash their hands and eat healthy food. Children's health is promoted [DOPS 5a].
12:30pm - 1:00pm Sleep/rest period: For younger children and quiet time for older children. Children's emotional well being nurtured [DOPS 5a]. The 4+ programme begins at this time.
1:00pm - 2.55pm Inside/Outside: Activities for children who come in after lunch.
3:00pm - 3:15pm Group time: Children feel comfortable with regular events [DOPS 5b].
3:15pm - 3:30pm Afternoon tea time
3:30pm - 4:20pm Free play inside/outside, check nappies: Children's play is valued as a meaningful learning experience [DOPS 5e].
4:30 - 5:30pm Tidy up outside, story/video time (quiet activities) Home Time: This provides a connecting link with the family. [DOPS 5b]. The goodbye song is sung at the end of the day.
Note: We are flexible with our routines and the programme is adapted according to the flow of each day.
