Centre Manager
Rupinder Parmar BSc, BEd ECE is a highly experienced educationalist with many years’ service in secondary and primary schools and childcare centres. Rupinder hails from a background in which children know up to 5 languages before starting school; this is invaluable in assisting Kiwicare children with their verbal skills. Rupinder speaks English, Punjabi and Hindi and has a working knowledge of Urdu. Rupinder is able to bring a multitude of cultural experiences to the children including traditional games and songs. Outside work Rupinder enjoys reading, cooking and teaching and interacting with children.
Operations Manager
Sally Callie BEd is an experienced primary and secondary school teacher specialising in health, science and physical education who has now generously decided to contribute her outstanding skills in the early childhood sector. Sally is an exceptional and distinguished athlete having represented Australia in rowing at three Olympic Games and having won numerous titles and accolades both nationally and internationally. Sally’s background includes extensive research into, management of and the practical implementation of techniques to build confidence, capability and responsibility in children of all ages. Kiwicare’s programmes for our children are deriving huge benefit from Sally’s unique talents and insights. In her spare time Sally likes travelling and keeping fit and active especially by enjoying the outdoors with her husband and son.
Curriculum & Registration Support
Karey Webber BEd, Dip Teaching ECE has overall responsibility for the profile books and the setup of the centre to ensure a great care and education programme for the children. As an experienced and registered teacher Karey supports staff with their full teacher registration. As well as this Karey is the link between the centres and universities for our trainee teachers.
Curriculum Managers
Maya Nair BSc, BEd, MSc, Dip Teaching ECE has been in the New Zealand early childhood sector for a number of years. She also has eight years overseas’ experience in primary and pre-primary environments. She is a very sincere hardworking, organised, self-disciplined and flexible person. Maya’s passion for children attracted her to a career in early childhood. She enjoys working in a stimulating and challenging environment with the children. Maya believes that children acquire knowledge mostly through play and social interaction. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. Maya speaks English and Malaylam.
Binu Rawther BEd ECE is a dedicated, sincere, hardworking and social person who is highly motivated in her work and enthusiastic in taking care of children. Binu is keen that each child loves to learn and is ready for school. Binu ensures the programme enables children to think logically and provides the pre reading, writing and mathematical skills needed for school readiness. As well as English Binu speaks Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Yimchunger. In her spare moments Binu enjoys cooking, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. The centre layout and activity based care is because Binu provides through Kiwicare very interesting resources and activities for the children.
Business Manager
Karen Osborne joins Kiwicare with a banking background which includes 18 years’ experience in the Customer Service industry. Karen will be one of your first points of contact when you telephone or call in to the centre. Karen assists parents with issues relating to enrolment, fees, absence and other administrative matters. In her spare time Karen enjoys gardening, all outdoor activities and playing with her two beautiful little girls.
Office Administrator
Tile Nanai Cert Bus Admin enjoys supporting the childcare teachers and educators by making sure that all office duties are carried out effectively, efficiently and on time. Tile recognises that the future of our nation will be in the hands of our children and loves to contribute to an organisation whose purpose is to promote children’s learning while they have fun. Tile always follows up as quickly as possible any information that parents want. Dealing with WINZ applications is her new speciality. In her time away from work Tile enjoys spending time with her children and partner, meeting new people and listening to music.

Rosy Kaur BA, BEd has seven years teaching experience with school age children. She joins our team in two capacities, one as a chef, preparing nutritious meals for the children and secondly as an educator preparing activities and working with the children on the floor when required. Rosy is passionate about providing children with a wide range of activities which promote positive communication both verbal and non-verbal. In her spare time Rosy enjoys gardening, painting and cooking.
Property Manager
Ian Mortlock, a qualified carpenter and joiner, has over 45 years’ experience in all facets of the construction industry and is now responsible for maintaining Kiwicare’s buildings, properties, toys, appliances and equipment. During his long career Ian has been site manager for numerous residential, commercial and industrial projects and while working for Scarbro Construction was the site manager in charge of building most of Kiwicare’s centres. It is therefore particularly appropriate that he now works with Kiwicare to care for the buildings he constructed. Ian is assisted by Mike Byrnes.

Mamta Singh MA, BEd, Dip Teaching ECE believes that the development of appropriate communication skills of all kinds is the key to children’s success. She considers that children gain an increasing ability to convey and receive information, instruction and ideas effectively and confidently by listening, speaking and using visual language in a range of contexts. Mamta also loves exploring music, reading and cooking with the children.

Rajinder Kaur BA, BEd ECE believes that her role as a teacher is to help the children to grow and develop as participants in their families and communities. Rajinder previously was an office manager so understands the importance of social skills to be able to interact well with others. Rajinder uses this particular skill to convey to the children in communication, singing and reading. Extending children’s mathematical understanding is a further passion of Rajinder. This means you will often find Rajinder working alongside the children to investigate all aspects of reading, writing, number work, general play, art and construction.

Raveen Bajwa BA, BEd, NTT, Studying for ECE Degree is a highly trained educator with formal qualifications in many fields including fine arts, education and nursing. Happily for the children Raveen decided to specialise in early childhood education after many years’ experience in primary teaching. Raveen has particular skills and interests in music, dance, drawing and cooking and loves to extend the children’s knowledge and involvement in these areas. In her time away from work Raveen likes to cook and sing.

Maadi Bell Studying for ECE Degree greatly assists Kiwicare by being deployed across all age groups in the centre as operational demands fluctuate. Maadi believes that as children develop they are increasingly able to take responsibility in working effectively on common tasks and exploratory activities. Maadi encourages the children to identify and describe challenges and works with the children to formulate connections and relationships to meet these challenges. She also enjoys assisting children with their literacy and mathematics.

Sonia Williamson believes that children learn best through active play and therefore encourages the children to fully investigate, experiment with and explore whatever topic or activity is currently capturing their attention. Sonia loves language and appreciates the importance of the children developing advanced skills in reading, writing and literacy as the foundation of and the buildings blocks for all future learning; one of her special skills is knowledge of training, self-help and social skills and she loves sharing her insights with the children. Sonia provides opportunities for the children to have sustained conversations, to ask questions and to take the initiative in and lead the discussion. In her spare time Sonia likes being with family, watching movies and interacting with children.

Henrietta Bourne BEd ECE knows that learning is fun and loves working with the children on enjoyable activities including music, art, words and numbers, and story-telling. Henrietta greatly enjoys providing outdoor play opportunities for the children to develop and master physical skills which are closely linked to the child’s overall feelings of competence. Henrietta believes that the knowledge children gain from being outside is the foundation for much future learning. Henrietta speaks Samoan and in her leisure time likes gardening, cooking, listening to music and spending time with her family.

Vashna Kartick B Tchg (ECE) values attention to detail as a guiding life principle and endeavours to implement the maxim: “If you long to accomplish great and noble tasks, you first must learn to approach every task as though it were great and noble”. Vashna considers that whatever a child learns and experiences in the early years will provide the key influences in later life. Accordingly, children should be given maximum opportunities to bloom though discovery and exploration in natural ways and surroundings in collaboration with their teachers. Vashna particularly enjoys exploring with the children the joys of music, carpentry, words, ball play, drawing and painting. Vashna is fluent in English, French, Hindi and Creole and in her spare time likes reading books and playing volleyball.

Anneke Walker Studying for ECE Degree loves assisting the children develop self-esteem, confidence, sociability, problem–solving techniques, respect for themselves and others and she endeavours to play a positive role in releasing the true potential in every child. Anneke also assists with the Discovery Group which is a play group where parents and their children join Kiwicare to enjoy time in the centre together. In her time away from work Anneke enjoys travelling, skiing, photography, gardening and cooking.

Kelly Garrett notes that as childcare is a second home for our children we have a great responsibility to ensure that our charges feel safe and secure and that all their needs are appropriately catered for. Kelly loves empowering the children to explore new things and activities and through constructive play to see, feel and experience the range of capabilities that they will need to acquire so that they can progress to be successful and satisfied individuals. Kelly also considers that it is important to ensure that the child knows that his or her views and feelings are important and will be listened to. Kelly particularly enjoys working with the children on visual play, cooking, singing and music and puzzles. Away from work Kelly likes baking, animals, sudoku and spending time with family and friends.

Dolly Mann Studying for ECE Degree believes that the teacher’s role is to guide, facilitate and motivate the child to participate in experiences and play that will promote lifelong learning. Dolly is particularly devoted to not only assisting the children develop excellent language and literacy skills as the building blocks of all future learning but also to helping them learn that gaining social skills will enable them to interact positively with and enjoy others. Dolly likes to work with the children on projects involving words, numbers, science and cooking. Leisure activities include going on adventurous trips, cooking, shopping and chilling out with friends.

Emily Ng BEd (ECT) has spent many years working with children in a variety of settings. She is an experienced Sunday school teacher, having worked in this role for ten years both in Singapore and New Zealand. Emily enjoys sharing her skills in cooking and arts and crafts with the children. Emily also has a particular interest in enhancing children’s mathematical skills by using everyday objects and activities in simple easy ways. Emily believes by being supportive and showing a committed effort, teachers can make a strong impact on children’s educational development. In her spare time Emily enjoys playing with her two dogs, reading, and spending time with her family.

Parmila Raj BEd ECE, Primary Teaching Cert (Fiji) has had thirteen years’ primary experience in Fiji before she trained in the early childhood sector in New Zealand. Parmila also has three years experience working in early childhood. Parmila is passionate about outdoor play and provides an active physical programme to challenge the children’s skills in this area. Reading and sharing stories is a way in which Parmila fosters language and literacy skills regulary with the children; this can be seen during mat-times in the centre. Parmila speaks English and Hindi.

Elisapeta Uili Dip Tchg ECE, Studying for BEd ECE considers that children progress best when teachers observe, listen to and understand each child and each child’s needs and then foster the child’s development through intellectually engaging strategies. These include imaginative interactions with the child, asking questions and encouraging the child to ask questions, discussing ideas, and involving the child in stimulating tasks and activities. Elisapeta believes that it is important to involve the parents and extended family in the learning, the programme and the plan for the child. Elisapeta particularly loves music and uses all its forms to simulate all manner of singing and movement and to encourage the children with their learning involving language, numbers, lyrics, science, shapes, colours and physical development.

Manshu Sharma BSc believes that treating children with honesty and kindness and advising them about choices and the nature of cause and effect provides them with the underpinning to grow into happy, well-rounded learners. Manshu likes to provide the framework to empower and draw out the children’s inherent skills and knowledge to enable them to develop naturally and confidently within a fun-filled environment. Manshu enjoys extending the children’s verbal abilities by supporting their early words and phrases, modelling new words and phrases, allowing the children to initiate conversation, and giving them time to respond and converse.

Kelly Dunnings is convinced that children are more capable than they are often given credit for by some adults and that children are teachers too. Kelly experiences great excitement when children create their own goals by indicating that they would like to learn a particular skill, and then go on to practise and perfect it, and enjoy that moment when they are able to do it and feel so proud of themselves. Kelly considers that music, stories and playgrounds provide fantastic mediums for learning. Kelly especially values early literacy as the core component in the nurturing of the technical, social and moral skills that will be the key determinants in the child’s future success and realisation of his or her potential. Devindir Singh BA, Dip Teaching ECE is an experienced childcare professional who uses expressions of the children’s interests to develop and extend challenging activities in all fields. Devindir believes children should be nurtured in a safe environment providing a strong sense of belonging. Devindir particularly enjoys developing the children’s music, painting and cooking skills. It is a delight to watch Devinder working with the children as she really has the skills to allow the children enjoy their day.

Sunaina Joshi MCom, BCom, Grad Dip ECE is a highly qualified and experienced teacher who likes to involve children in group activities which develop the concepts of sharing with and caring for other children; through this the children learn to respect others and build self-confidence. Sunaina also considers that it is important to foster optimistic attitudes in the children as this will make success more likely as each child finds and develops his or her special talents and abilities. As well as English Sunaina speaks Hindi and Punjabi. In her time away from work Sunaina likes to surf the net to keep her knowledge updated, watching TV, and playing with her daughter.

Holley Chandra Studying for ECE Degree believes in applying teamwork, open communication and honesty in all situations. Holley loves working alongside the children, their parents and whānau; using the individual child’s home language; and extending and building upon the child’s interests and needs. Holley especially enjoys working with the children in exploring the wonders and possibilities in the arts and drawing and in the science of cooking. Holley has a special love for animals and guides the children in fostering and developing their respect for all creatures. Holley greatly enjoys the outdoors and likes extending the children’s physical development through imaginative activities in the playgrounds. Once work is over Holley enjoys watching movies and most of all spending time with loved ones.

Radeshwati Prasad BA, Post Grad Cert Ed, STTC loves children and enjoys guiding them and being able to help them grow in wonderful surroundings and with understanding. Radesh strongly supports childcare because she believes it gives children a great start in learning the many skills need to be successful in life and also because it gives the experience and knowledge of routine and the opportunity to interact successfully with many other children of their own age. Radesh enjoys being involved in all aspects of the children’s development and especially likes working with the children on cooking, reading and outdoor activities. Daisy Xu BA, BEd ECE has a passion for art and believes art allows children to explore all facets of their environment. Daisy is fluent in Mandarin and is thus able to support our Chinese children in their development at Kiwicare. Daisy greatly enjoys travel and loves to discuss her adventures with the children. Daisy also loves mathematics and uses her numeracy skills to assist the children in experimenting with numbers in relation to family members, children in a group and ordering the environment in patterns and relationships. Daisy enjoys sports including swimming and tennis, reading, travel and country music.

Selvyn Prasad BEd (Tchg) Primary, Dip ECE believes that a child’s mind is completely open and thus ready to explore and develop an understanding of the world through every medium. Selvyn considers that the creative, verbal and visual arts play a huge role in the formation of children’s knowledge and she is therefore eager to use her artistic skills to promote the children’s growth in literacy and numeracy as well as science using fun and interactive methods. Toni Wells considers that the most important aspect of childcare is the provision of an environment that is warm and welcoming where the children feel secure and cared for. Rata Drum BEd (Tchg) Primary loves contributing to the building of confidence in the children through their developing a thirst for learning by risk-taking, being challenged and working together to solve problems. Rata teaches in the hope that all the children she has been responsible for will go forth into a changing and exciting society with a sense of purpose and direction, and with the skills and knowledge they need to do well and succeed in whatever they choose to do. Rata particularly likes working with the children on projects which advance their knowledge of and enjoyment in music and singing, art and painting, and sports and dancing. She also likes showing the children how language can be used to effectively communicate ideas and information and to solve problems. In her leisure time Rata enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, horse-riding, dancing, camping and movies.

Yeonsuh Jeong B Tchg (Primary) believes that the needs of all children should be catered for by the teachers, and that the children should be encouraged to explore freely and should always feel safe and welcomed in our environment. Yeonsuh considers all adults, and particularly teachers and educators, should build relationships of trust and respect by acknowledging children’s feelings, treating the children as individuals, explaining what will be happening and why, and taking any concerns and fears of the children seriously. Frequent communication among the teachers and educators who work with the children is essential to ensure consistent, reasoned responses to the children’s changing needs and behaviours and to share information on all issues. In her spare time Yeonsuh likes developing her photography skills.

Prabhpreet Kaur Saini BEd (Tchg) Primary believes that in order to be an effective teacher she needs to build trusting relationships with the children through creating an environment in which the children can take risks and not be afraid to question thus developing their own learning styles and taking ownership of their own learning. Her goal is to equip her charges with the skills to become lifelong learners and effective and constructive citizens in society. Prabhpreet has particular skills in art and drawing, mathematics and English, and sports and dance and exploits these to help enhance the children’s all-round progress and development both intellectually and physically. Away from work Prabhpreet enjoys dance, drawing, playing sports, reading, exploring computers, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.

Joyce Chamaoun MA, BTh considers that children can succeed and reach their full potential if they receive access to the appropriate educational tools, experiences, care and love and that consequentially they will develop into well-rounded individuals with a passion for life and love of learning, sharing and caring for others. As a fluent speaker of several languages Joyce appreciates that language is a vital part of communication and that one of the major tasks for children is to develop competence in language. Language does not consist only of words, sentences and stories; it also incorporates the language of images, art, dance, drama, mathematics, movement, rhythm and music. As a former professional actor Joyce can convey to the children the thrills of live performance, drama and acting techniques and help them develop those skills.

Divya Abhilash MBA, BE, Grad Dip Tchg (ECE) considers that the starting point for good childcare is the provision of a safe, challenging, fun environment. Divya believes in providing opportunities for child initiated play but also remains alert to chances to take the initiative to provoke children’s interests and ideas. Divya also enjoys developing the children’s negotiation skills through concepts such as sharing, taking turns and problem solving. After work Divya likes dancing, writing, cooking, knitting and browsing the internet.

Carol-Anne Espin likes to provide the framework to empower and draw out the children’s inherent skills and knowledge so as to enable them to develop naturally and confidently within a fun-filled environment. Carol-Anne especially enjoys working with the children on science projects in which they can explore and develop multiple concepts and theories about how the world works, why things might happen the way they do, and learn to appreciate and investigate the link between cause and effect. Carol-Anne also loves helping to extend the children’s literacy and knowledge of words, their understanding of numbers and the uses to which they can be put, and the joys of cooking and tasting the results! Leisure activities include reading, walking and family time.
